This blog is under the protection of Our Lady of Guadalupe, whose feast we celebrate today. She is the Patroness of the Americas and the Protectress of the Unborn. There are many sites where you may read about the story of the miraculous image that she gave to Saint Juan Diego.

Here are a few:

As noted at the maryourmother.net site:

To the Christian one cannot help but identify Our Lady of Guadalupe
with the Woman of the Apocalypse. This interpretation was
first recorded by Father Miguel Sanchez in 1648.

“A great sign appeared in the sky,
a woman clothed with the sun,
with the moon at her feet,
and on her head a crown of twelve stars.”

Revelation 12:1 12

For the benefit of readers who may be uncomfortable with talking about Mary, the mother of Jesus, here are some notes that may help you understand the context of Catholic devotion to (not worship of !) this great role model of Christians.

Please remember that Catholics meditate on Mary
only in the light of Christ.
Jesus Christ is the heart of the Church.
It was St. Catherine of Siena, who lived during
the fourteenth century, who said that
All the way to heaven is heaven, because Christ is the Way.”

The Englishwoman Caryll Houselander
(1901-1954), in The Reed of God,
has captured the beauty of Mary in a simple yet profound way:

“The one thing she did is the one thing that we all have to do,
namely, to bear Christ into the world.”
Our joy is that Mary did this as a human,
“as a lay person and through the ordinary daily life that we all live.”
